Wilma Frances Carpenter Smith, 92, of Danville, Kentucky, died Saturday, September 30. She was born July 28, 1931, to the late Reid and the late Josephine “Blue” Coyle Carpenter in Washington County. Wilma was raised at Beech Grove Baptist Church and later attended Gethsemane Baptist Church. She retired from the Danville High School Cafeteria where she loved her co-workers and students. She was one of the sweetest ladies and loved her family tremendously.
Wilma is survived by her children, James Frederick Smith II “Freddie” and Jenny Smith Upton; sister, Norma (William) Graves; grandchildren, Scarlet McQuerry and Elijah (Morgan) McQuerry; great-grandchildren, Lucy Sebastian and Sloane McQuerry. She is predeceased by her parents, husband, J. Fred Smith, and siblings, Lillian Curtis and Billy Gene Carpenter.
The graveside service will be at 2 p.m., Friday, October 6, 2023, at Danville Memorial Gardens with George Smith officiating.
Serving as pallbearers are Freddie Smith, Eijah McQuerry, Ray Graves, Tommy Curtis and Mike Graves. Honorary Pallbearers are William Graves, Norma Graves, Kenny Cox, Ruth Rogers, Bobby Rogers, Debbie Curtis Conway, Carmen Frederick, Wendy Bennett Maxwell, Roy Sebastian, Sean Rogers, Lucy Sebastian and Sloane McQuerry.
