Willie M. Richey, age 89, passed away Sunday, November 15, 2009, in Lancaster.
Born Sunday, November 23, 1919, in Logan County, he was a son of the late John William and Sally Hutcheson Richey. Willie was a retired heavy equipment operator for Byerly Construction. He was a member and former deacon of Moreland Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Cruisin Car Buddies Car Club and the Constitution Squares Square Dancing Club. Willie was also a World War II US Army Veteran.
Survivors include his son, Gary (Peggy) Richey of Stanford; daughter, Rosanne (Robert) Stocker of Danville; sisters, Lena Mae Phillips, Anna Belle Richey, and Mary Adams, all of Auburn, KY; granddaughter, Susan (Shane) Wren of Stanford; 2 great grandchildren, Lakin and Lindsey; 2 step-grandchildren, Brian (Amy) Shelton and Christy (Dewayne) Lark, both of Stanford; and 5 step-great grandchildren, Sidney, Malory, Sawyer, Riley, and Layne.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Marie McElfresh Richey, who passed away August 11, 2004.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Wednesday, November 18, 2009, at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home with Chaplain Gary Story officiating. Burial will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens with military honors by Caswell-Saufley American Legion Post #18 and the US Army Fort Knox Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 5-9 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Gary Richey, Shane Wren, Brian Shelton, Dewayne Lark, Carl Ward, and Robert Stocker. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jeff Curtis, Josh Douglas, Paul Rice, David Votaw, Wayne and Donald Atwood, Tom Byerly, Gene Bell, Miles Gibson, Tony Newsom, and Michael Young.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Heritage Hospice.
