Stewart Burt

Stewart Wellington Burt, 83, of Danville, died Friday July 18, 2014. Born November 11, 1930 in Thurston, NY, he was the son of the late Stewart and Licca A. Cornish Burt. He attended William and Mary College, Williamsburg, Va. and served in the National Guard. Stewart was a scientific glassblower for over fifty years and a founding member of the American Scientific Glassblowers Society. He was a charter member of Warwick Baptist Church, Newport News, Va. and the Bayview Baptist Church, Webster, NY. and served as a deacon, Sunday school director, teacher and church treasurer in several of his church memberships. He is a member of the First Baptist Church of Danville where he has served as Senior Adult team leader. Stewart was predeceased by a sister, June Phillips.


Stewart is survived by his wife, Naomi "Nan" Burt; three sons, Robert (Eve) Burt of Cannonsburg, Pa, David (Tunnea) Burt of Brunswick, Md. and Joseph (Peggy) Burt of Arkadelphia, Ark.; two daughters, Jo-Ann (Keith) Whitcomb of Liberty and Debra (James) Clouse of Mt. Juliet, Tn.; eight grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren.


The funeral service will be 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Mathis and Rev. Darrell Hahn officiating. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Dick Lough, Marvin Saylor, Jim Clouse, Keith Whitcomb, Bill Seivers, Bill Dolson, Benny Goode and George Coldiron. Honorary pallbearers will be the member of the Joy Sunday School Class and his Heritage Hospice team


Visitation will be from 10:30 to 12:30 p.m., Tuesday at First Baptist Church. Memorial donations are suggested to the Heritage Hospice. Stith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
