Juanita "Nita" Townsend, 61, of 504 Hill-n-Dale Dr., Danville, died Tuesday, May 12, 2009. Born June 10, 1947, in Paris, Ky., she is the daughter of Joe Raymond and Garnetta Whirls Brunker. She was a homemaker and a minister to the ladies at the detention center. Nita is a member of Faith Church. She also loved gardening and bird watching. She and her husband, Russell V. Townsend, Jr., were married 38 years ago on Friday, May 15. Juanita won her battle with cancer on May 12. Her reward is with Jesus.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, Todd Neely (Tracey) of Winchester; four daughters, Tina Townsend Frost (Stephen) of Charlotte, N.C., Gina Townsend Stringfield (Jimmy) of Danville, Theresa Townsend Morris (David) of Junction City and Robyn McKenney of Lexington; a brother, Carl Brunker of Paris; two sisters, JoEtta Myers (James) of Crockett, Texas, and Judi Finn (William) of Paris; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild on the way. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Ernest Clay Brunker, Donald Ray Brunker and Eugene Brunker.
The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday, May 15, 2009 at Stith Funeral Home and Family Center in Junction City, Ky. with Rev. Kenneth Greene officiating. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Stringfield, David Morris, Stephen Frost, Mike Soper, Josh Bustle and Jason Emerson. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Stith Funeral Home in Junction City, Ky.
