Jewell Vaught

March 12, 1920 — February 11, 2009

Jewell Carman Vaught, blessed mother of Patricia Lister and Larry Pike, went to meet the Lord on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009. She will be sadly missed by her family and all who knew her. Born March 12, 1920, in Boyle County, she was the daughter of the late John L. and Della Phillips. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Vaught, and her sister, Norma Warren. She was a bookkeeper for A&P Grocery store for many years. She lived her life as a servant of the Lord and was a blessing for all who knew her. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church for most of her life and was active in the church choir until her death. She loved gardening and her artistic talents blessed others. She had a beautiful smile and sparkling eyes that lit up a room and her presence brought us a peaceful calm. She leaves behind her son, Larry (Julie) Pike of Florence; a daughter, Pat Lister of Lancaster; three step-children, Bob (Marie) Vaught, Jack Vaught and Henrietta (Halton) Webb, all of Danville; four grandchildren, Terry Lister, Tony (Wendy) Lister, Wayne (Stephanie) Pike and Timothy (Christa) Pike; six great-grandchildren, Courtney, Brennien, Brooklyn, Jordon and Ashton Pike and Tyler Lister; 10 step-grandchildren; a niece, Beverly Bailey; two nephews, Johnny and Skeeter Warren; and a sister-in-law, Josephine Kelly. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Stith Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Mathis. Burial will be in the Danville Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday prior to the service.
