Jesse Southerland, a beloved father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2023. Born on March 29, 1938, to the late Forest and Christine Southerland. Jesse brought joy and laughter to those around him throughout his remarkable life.

He was a machine operator who worked for multiple construction Companies and his happy place was on a piece of equipment.

An avid outdoorsman, Jesse had a passion for hunting and fishing that was unrivaled. Whether he was casting a line or tracking game through the Kentucky wilderness, he found solace and contentment in the beauty of nature. Jesse’s love for the outdoors was surpassed only by his devotion to his family. He attended Pleasant Run Baptist Church. Along with his parents, he is predeceased by his cherished wife Edith, and a brother Marvin Southerland.

Jesse’s infectious smile and warm personality endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him. He had a remarkable way of making everyone feel at ease and could light up a room with his laughter. He was always on the go, seeing friends and family or a drive in the country.

He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Southerland and son, Timothy W. (Heather) Southerland; his siblings, Anita Roundtree, James (Lela) Southerland, William Southerland, and Larry (Connie) Southerland. Jesse’s grandchildren held a special place in his heart. Michael (Laura) Southerland, Alex Southerland, and Tanner Southerland were the lights of his life, and their presence brought immeasurable joy. Furthermore, Jesse proudly welcomed his great-grandchildren, Gavin Southerland and Hannah Patton, into the Southerland family, passing down his legacy of love and affection.

The funeral service will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at Stith Funeral Home, Junction City. Visitation will be 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., Wednesday, December 27, 2023. Burial will be at the Danville Memorial Gardens beside the love of his life, his wife Edith Jane Southerland.
