James Ross

James David "J.D." Ross, 92, of Danville, died Monday, May 2, 2011. Born April 10, 1919 in Winfield, TN, he was the son of William Ransom and Bessie Amanda Creekmore Ross. He was an engineer with the Southern Railway Co. and a decorated combat veteran of World War II. He served in the United States Army with the 83rd Infantry Division and the 329th Infantry and was awarded the Bronze Star. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Veda Duncan Ross, two sons, Roger D. (Naomi) Ross of Danville, and Gary D. (Connie) Ross of Lexington, four grandchildren, Gary D. (Heidi) Ross Jr., Mark D. (Karen) Ross, Amanda Ross, Tracy (David) Harr, two step-grandchildren, Veronica (Tom) Martin, and Benita Lanham; six great-grandchildren, Savannah Ross, Cameron Ross, Jessica Ross, Catherine Ross, Hudson Ross, and Emma Ann Ross, eight step great-grandchildren, Phoebe Ross, Griffin Ross, Daniel Crall, Grace Crall, Shelby Ransdell, Chase Ransdell, Peyton Lanham and Brooklyn Lanham, and a sister, Edna Tymensky of Danville. He was predeceased by a grandson, Alan Perry Ross, three brothers, Harold Dorman Ross, Lowell Ross and Kenneth Ross, and two sisters, Ruth Duncan and Jean Anderson McCarty. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, May 5th, at Stith Funeral Home, Danville. The Rev. Dr. Tim Mathis will officiate. Active pallbearers will be David Harr, Gary Ross Jr., Mark Ross, Cameron Ross, Chase Ransdell and Daniel Crall. Honorary pallbearers will be the Andrews Sunday School Class and Deacons of First Baptist Church. Visitation will be after 5 p.m., Wednesday, May 4th at Stith Funeral Home. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
