Gene Hayden 1942-2009
SCIENCE HILL - Gene V. Hayden, 67, of Science Hill, died Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
He was born in Muncie, Ind., on Feb. 1, 1942, the son of Marie Sallee Hayden and the late Victor Hayden. He graduated from Royerton High School in 1959.
Hayden was a retired Muncie police officer of 20 years. He started in the Canine unit from 1964 to 1974, then from Detective to Intelligence to Chief of Police from 1980 to 1984, then to Captain of Detectives from 1984 until he retired in 1985. He later became a deputy U.S. marshal.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge #433, Fraternal Order of Police and Indiana Association Chiefs of Police.
Gene was a loving, devoted husband to Karla and a loving, caring father who will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife, Karla L. Clore Hayden, whom he married Aug. 17, 1963; a daughter, Tammy R. (Dennis) Kramer of Somerset; a son, Scott R. Hayden of Miami, Fla.; his mother, Marie Hayden of Muncie; a brother, Ed (Julie) Hayden of Stanford, Fla.; three aunts, Ruth Hayden of Ohio, Barbara Hayden of Muncie and Vivian Douthitt of Frankton, Ind.; and several cousins.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. today at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Wayne Watts officiating.
Entombment will be 11 a.m. Monday in Danville Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is 1:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
