Dale Harstine

October 17, 1924 — May 23, 2013

Harrodsburg: Dale Edson Harstine, 88, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2013 at the Thomson Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore. He was born in New Philadelphia, Ohio on October 17, 1924 to the late Elmer and Pearl Rinehart Harstine.

Mr. Harstine was a Veteran of the United States Navy having served during World War II at the ammunition depot in Hawthorne, Nevada, he graduated from New Philadelphia High School where he played basketball and was the manager of the football team. He was a graduate of Letourneau University in Longview, Texas with a mechanical engineering degree; he was an engineer with Corning Glass Works and retired from General Electric Glass plant in Lexington, Kentucky. He was of the Baptist faith, was a lifetime member of the North American Fishing Club and his name appears on the honor roll of the National WWII museum in New Orleans and the Veterans wall of honor in Millennium Park in Danville. He loved working in his woodworking shop and loved NASCAR racing and raising fruit trees. He was always quick to lend a helping hand to his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Gary Dale Harstine and a brother, Gerald Harstine.

Survivors are his daughter, Nancy Ellen Kleckner (Charles Bottom) of Danville, a grandson, Scotty (Jennifer) Chambers of Parksville, a great-granddaughter Amber (Jason) Selby of Schweinfurt, Germany, a sister, Lois Johnson of Russellville, Arkansas, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home with Bro. Ernest Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10a.m. - 12:00p.m at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Scotty Chambers, Charlie Bottom, Jim McGlone, Bernie McGlone, Jerry Huffman, and Morris Riddle.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Thomson Hood Veterans Center 100 Veterans Drive Wilmore, Kentucky 40390.

Mr. Harstine's family would like to thank the staff at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Center, Kindred Care Rehabilitation Center and Thomson Hood Veterans Center for the care that was given to Mr. Harstine.
