Billy Cecil Carrier, 78, of Logan Ave., died Saturday, May 16, 2009, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. Born June 11, 1930, in Burgin, Ky., he was the son of the late Alexander Hulan Carrier and Florence Mae Landers Carrier. A graduate of Highland High School and Eastern Kentucky University, Billy served in the U.S. Army during both the Korean and Vietnam wars. He retired in 1976 as a lieutenant colonel having earned a Bronze Star and the Army Commendation Medal with an Oak Leaf Cluster. Following his retirement, he worked at Porter Paint Store and Whirlpool Corp. He loved to fish and was an accomplished woodworker and member of Calvary Baptist Church.Survivors include his wife, Norma Simms Carrier, a son, Neil P. Carrier, a daughter, Susan Carrier (Robert G.) Baker, and a granddaughter, Cassie R. Baker, all of Danville. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Stith Funeral Home with the Rev. Ernest Martin and the Rev. Doug Wesley officiating. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Stith Funeral Home.
